Daech-Linked Terrorist Cell Dismantled in Morocco

In a significant counter-terrorism operation, Moroccan officials have dismantled a dangerous terrorist cell linked to Daech (ISIS). The operation was conducted by the Bureau Central d'Investigations Judiciaires (BCIJ) in collaboration with the Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST). The cell had plotted a series of high-profile attacks across the country.

The operation, which took place on February 19, 2025, was a series of coordinated raids in various cities, including Laâyoune, Casablanca, Fès, Taounate, Tangier, Azemmour, Guercif, Ouled Teima, and Tamesna. Twelve radicals, aged between 18 and 40, were apprehended during the raids. The suspects had pledged allegiance to Daech and were involved in planning and coordinating terrorist activities.

The cell was commanded by a high-ranking Daech commander based in the Sahel area, officials said. The commander issued operational directives and financial support to the cell so they could prepare and coordinate for multiple attacks. Among the items recovered in the raid were explosive components at various stages of assembly, altered gas cylinders filled with chemicals and nails, and remote-controlled detonating systems.

This successful attack proves Morocco's effective proactive anti-terrorist policy and its commitment to maintaining national security. Authorities continue investigating the case in an attempt to find any potential connections to other radical networks.

This operation serves as a reminder of the persisting threat from terrorist organizations and the necessity for international coordination in combating such threats. The government of Morocco remains vigilant and devoted to ensuring the security and stability of the nation.
